Four fawns stood in the street over the creek in our subdivision as I was dFridge magnets – you either love ’em or you hate ’em, i find. Me, they serve a purpose and add colour and texture to an otherwise boring surface, particularly if the fridge in your apartment is older than you are by at least a few decades!
Seriously, ever heard of a Kelvinator? Ye ole trusty wikipedia lists the company as being founded back in 1914 by Nathaniel B. Wales and i wouldn’t be surprised if my compact, non-self-defrosting version was one of the first that rolled off the line!
So decorating it with a picture of Minerva in her gimp-legged kittenhood, inspirational quotes (“I can only please one person a day. F@#$ You!!! Today’s MY day!” or “We all must have a belief in something, i believe i’ll have another glass of wine” – Grimm) and the latest do’s and don’ts of T.O.’s recycling program is something i rather look forward to.
But like all good things, there is such a thing as TOO MUCH! So, i decided to clear off the door, relegating all but a few cherished items to the exposed side beside the equally archaic 2 burner, mini stove by Kenmore. Likely a fire hazard, but for the fact that being that i can only use 2 of the following functions at the same time – baking, broiling, left burner & right burner, the burner closest to the fridge rarely gets used.
The cherished items: a locker mirror that serves as my make-up mirror in the morning as the bathroom’s awkward corner sink makes it near impossible to apply mascara without impaling myself with the applicator; the beautiful porcelain jester mask magnet Sher brought back from New Orleans (before Katrina, which somehow makes it extra special) and a collection of magnetic poetry from a number of sources, most notably Jann Arden!
I thought after the clean-up that a good exercise would be to keep the poetry pieces in a container atop the fridge and update the poem or phrase daily with a new pick of magnets. Not only does it clean up the face of the fridge, but it keeps the creative juices flowing if you will. So…here goes…
